Saints opening game was against league favourites Tranent and they had were missing 6 players! ScottOrrock and Derek Wallace were suspended. RyanMckinnes had a family commitment and Liam Mcdaid and Lee Duffy were on holiday while Ross Graham was working.
Opening stages were pretty even with both sides having a few half chances.
First goal came when tranent player found space about 20yrds from goal and placed the ball into the corner.
Tranent should have doubled the lead when a shot from there striker went in and hit the support of the post but the referee failed to spot it and thought that it hit the post.
Dundonald drew level when a deep corner was headed goalwards by fleming and went through a bundle of players to end up in the net.
Half time 1-1
Tranent scored early into the second half.. long diagonal ball in behind the saints defence let the tranent full back run off his man to score the second.
Saints then dominated the major of the chances with nothing clear cut then tranent scored against the run of play with a good move in which their striker held the ball up before back heeling it into the path of his strike partner who slotted the ball home.
Saints never let there heads go down and with 5 minutes remaining pulled one back when tabs hit a side footed shot which was slightly deflected into the net.
Manager craig morrison then brought himself on as saints pushed for a deserved equaliser and was unlucky when he twisted and turned the tranent defence but unfortuatly hi shot was blocked and the game ended 3-2.
Plenty of promise from the saints who put on a good performance and were unlucky not to take anything from the game whilst missing a lot of players away to the league favourites.
