Manchester United’s recent surprise loan signings of strikers make the decision to transfer Martin Braithwaite easy

The verdict is in as Newport falls short in the FA Cup against Man Utd. Despite their effort, the buzz of the FA Cup was not enough for Newport to secure the win.

Manchester United is reportedly considering a late January move for Espanyol striker Martin Branthwaite, with Chelsea also showing interest. However, United’s history with emergency loan strikers suggests it may be better to endure short-term setbacks and rebuild under the INEOS banner in the summer.

Previous emergency loan strikers like Odion Ighalo failed to make a significant impact, struggling to find their form on the field. Ighalo, in particular, managed only four goals in 26 games at Old Trafford, and his loan spell at Chelsea was similarly underwhelming.

Of United’s loan strikers in the last decade, Odion Ighalo arguably had the most impact. Despite initial skepticism, Ighalo became a cult hero after joining United from Shanghai Shenhua in January 2020.

His love for the club was evident, and he managed to score five goals in 19 appearances, leading to a six-month extension of his deal with the team.
