Gary Neville calls out leaked Manchester United dressing room revelation, highlighting Marcus Rashford’s apparent distance.

Former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville has accused a ‘few people’ of leaking information about Marcus Rashford from inside the dressing room. Rashford missed United’s FA Cup clash with Newport on Sunday after reporting ill for training following a night out in Belfast.

Rashford has suffered a downturn in form this season and has only contributed four goals in all competitions. And last week he was reportedly spotted in Belfast nightspots two nights in a row before missing training on Friday.

Rashford penned a contract extension at Old Trafford last summer but has already been linked with a move away from the club, with Paris Saint-Germain said to be interested. And Neville told the Stick to Football podcast in association with Sky Bet: “I think people are briefing against Marcus Rashford.

“This morning, reading the headlines in the newspapers and the stories, it feels to me that there’s a few people briefing against him, because there are things in there that his team-mates are sick of him, he’s distant in the dressing room, there’s things that have come out that mean there are people in the dressing room, or connected to the dressing room [saying things]. A source told the publication: “When the manager first arrived he made a beeline for Marcus and made clear to him just how much he rated him.

He helped him get his form back and he put in a string of really good performances. “[But] Marcus no longer has the same lads around him and doesn’t get involved in the banter as much.

He can be very moody in training and in games and just doesn’t seem happy. He doesn’t really hang around with any of the players anymore and seems distant.”

Rashford will be available for selection when United travel to Wolves on Thursday night.

At the start of the week, The Athletic reported that the 26-year-old attended a meeting with Red Devils football director John Murtough and boss Erik ten Hag on Monday alongside his brother and agent Dwaine Maynard as club chiefs attempted to get to the bottom of what happened in Belfast. And United confirmed in a statement: “Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions.

This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed.”
