NEWS FROM THE REC
Race Night Cancelled
Tonights Race Night has had to be cancelled.
Locos Derailed By Flying Muhsin
St Andrews Uniteds' pre season preparations continued today with a great 2-0 victory over Highland League side Inverurie Locos. With several squad members missing due to various reasons hopes were not high prior to kick off but fears were dispelled in 4 minutes with a great goal from Sean Muhsin. Both sides then battled it out for another 82 minutes until Muhsin completed his double with a move he started and then finished when he fired home from a narrow angle, cue a decidedly dodgy celebration from the mercurial winger. Once again there were plenty o fplus points from Jim Hardies men, Dammer, Hegarty, Dorward and Conor Finaly looked assured at the back, Sutherland and Muckersie caused problems all afternoon for the Locos defence the two trialists in midfield did well and then of course there was Muhsin, but one man excelled this afternoon against a quality opposition and that was captain for the day, Allan Ramsay who worked tirelessly in the middle of the park. Next week sees United take on West Superleague Champions Beith Juniors in a cracker of a game at Recreation Park.
Finally a big thanks to Don Burnett for his cooking skills on the barbecue which were appreciated by both sets of players.
Locos Steam In To Town
United boss Jim Hardie hopes that his sides preparations are kept on track and not derailed when Inverurie Locos steam in to town on Saturday. Saints built themselves a solid platform at Dundee Violet last weekend and expressed themselves well all over the park, however it will be a different matter this weekend against the experienced Highland League side.
The game should give Saints fans a first look at this summers new signings, supporters are reminded that kick off on Saturday is 2pm and not 2.30 as previouslly advertised.
Raeside Temporarily Hangs Up His Boots
Experienced Central Defender Robbie Raeside has decided to call a temporary halt to his football career in order to defend the people of Tayside from crime.
Raeside this week starts a 13 week course with Tayside Police and feels that at the age 38 he needs to give his new vocation every opportunity of success especially when considering that many forces have ceased recruiting for the near future.
Robbie started his career at professional career at Raith Rovers and spent 6 years at Starks Park before joining Dundee. After 4 years at Dens Park, Raeside joined Arbroath for the first time, then after spells at Shelbourne, where he played in the Champions League, Morton, Alloa, Stirling Albion and Peterhead for whom he played 103 times, he rejoined the Gayfield side becoming a cult hero during his 115 games. In December 2009, St Andrews United pulled off a bit of a coup when they managed to secure the defenders signature and he played an integral part in Uniteds battle against relegation in the East Region Premier League.
Robbie has given assurances that he will resume his career with St Andrews as soon as possible.
Sutherland In Lethal Touch
Ace hitman Gary Sutherland was in lethal form at Glenesk Park on Saturday as he helped himself to a double as United defeated the North Divison runners up 3-0. Sutherland scored the first after a great run from Ryan Dignan and then right on full time he swivelled on the edge of the box to meet a Muhsin cross with the sweetest of volleys in to the far corner. Mark McGuigan had netted the second when the ball broke to him after an error from the Violet keeper.
Faldo moves to ASC
Full back Steven Fallon is set to join Arbroath Sporting Club, the defender had been unable to train with United due to work commitments and the club wish Faldo all the best and thank him for his efforts for the club.
Striker Leaves United as Dignan Joins
St Andrews United have sold striker Kris Maxwell to Hill of Beath, the move comes as United have moved to bring exciting forward Ryan Dignan to Recreation Park from Downfield. Dignan is highly rated and moves to St Andrews after just 6 months at the Dundee club. The club would like to thank Kris for his efforts at The Rec and wish him all the best for the future.
Player Sponsors Needed
Its that time of year where we ask for generous people to sponsor the playing squad. The money goes directly to the players for purchasing equipment that the club doesn't provide such as boots, shinpads and goalkeeper clubs. The sponsorship fee is £100 and in return your generous support is listed in the matchday programme and here on the website. If you wish to sponsor a player or member of the coaching staff please give me a call on 07825 883608 or email me at satp2006@aol.co.uk

After the ceremony and buffet, a group went to the bar to watch the England game whilst the Chairman strutted his stuff on the dancefloor. Season Ends in Semi Defeat
St Andrews United season ended in dissapointment at Forfar yesterday as they succumbed 3-0 to West End, despite being the better side for large periods of the game. the game turned on 38 minutes when Duell was left one on one against Brash, and the full back pulled him down on the edge of the box, not only did Brash see Red for the offence but Lawson popped the free kick home round the wall. Duell scored a second just before half time and despite hard work by Uniteds 10 men Duell killed the game on 87 as Forfar countered.
It's Fuenga Forfar
Last nights win for Forfar WE over Kelty by 3-1 sees United travelling to Angus for the third time this season, you may remember the first time was postponed once the referee had arrived at the ground and then we drew 0-0 in a hard fought league game. Saints Reach Semi's
St Andrews United reached the semi finals of the 505050 Taxis Fife and Tayside Cup with a workmanlike 3-0 victory over Dundee North End across the water this afternoon. Goals from Maxwell, Fraser and a Muhsin rocket saw Saints home against a young North End side. Match report to follow.
Scottish Cup 50th Anniversary
The anniversary was marked by a gala evening attended by all but one of the surviving members of the squad and representatives of those that have sadly passed away.
The evening began with a welcome from the Club Chairman Mr David Cunningham who welcomed everybody before handing over to compere for the evening local historian Jimmy Bone. Mr Bone then introduced the speakers before the Provost of Fife, Councillor Frances Melville, presented a quaich to the club to commemorate the achievement, she went on to say how important sport is to a community and how it can pull people together and this can be seen all over the Kingdom of Fife in a huge variety of sports, she unfortunately had to cut short her stay due to prior commitments elsewhere in Fife but before she left was presented with a bouquet of flowers by the current St Andrews United Captain, Ricky Patrick.
The gathered friends of the club, ex players, committee members and supporters alike were then treated to the memories of that great day by Captain Jock Hughes, two goal hero Romeo Borella and Jock Fraser, who all reminisced about the day with a definite feeling of pride and emotion.
Mr Bone then told the story from a supporter’s point of view before former player and manager Alan Speirs performed a specially written poem about the cup winning team and day.
Finally, Henry McLeish gave the audience his take on the day as well as his thoughts on the future of football in Scotland, everybody then enjoyed an excellent buffet before dancing to Raymond and the Rebels.

Goals from Gary Sutherland (2) and Ross Grant secured 3 well deserved points. Thanks to all the supporters who travelled through to the Lothians for your support and commitment especially with other distractions.
United Steal Cup Victory From Arbroath
Last night St Andrews United, stole a victory from the jaws of defeat as they went through to the 2nd Round of the Fife & Tayside Cup.
Sporting Club took the lead on just 45 seconds, when Owbridge was left unmarked at free kick and he slotted the ball beyond Paul Davidson. SC increased their lead on 46 when Davidson was adjudged to have tripped an Arbroath player, Sievwright converted the penalty. The home side were given a chance to win he game on 50 minutes when Mark McGuigan was harshly penalised for handball, however, Davidson atoned for his earlier error by saving the second penalty. United woke up and Maxwell scored from just inside the box when the ball broke to him, and then Gary Sutherland challenged the keeper to a McGuigan cross and got his head to the ball first to equalise. United won the penalty shootout 3-1 as the home side missed 3 kicks while Patrick, Grant and Muhsin were successful for United.

United Draw At Ballingry
St Andrews United started well, looked dead and buried but ended up with a point against Ballingry this afternoon, an early McGuigan goal saw United lead 1-0 at the break. United Share Points In Cracker
Todays game between promotion hopefuls Kinnoull and St Andrews United finished with both sides sharing the points in the proverbial game of two halves. United went in to a 2-0 lead through Mark McGuigan and Robbie Raeside before Anton pulled a goal back on half time for Kinnoull. The second half saw Kinnoull equalise through a great strike from Andy McManus and it was then stout defending from United that secured a point from a game that could easily have been thrown away. Match Report to follow.
Major Roadworks in Perth
Supporters travelling to Tulloch Park for tommorows clash with Kinnoull are advised to avoid the centre of Perth due to major roadworks. Supporters should approach from the McDiarmid Park direction and turn sharp left at the traffic lights at the bottom of the hill, Tulloch Park is on the right.
Shoulder To Shoulder
Saturday see's United travel to Perth to face Kinnoull in a Premier League clash, all our games left this season will be difficult but with Kinnoull still in the race for promotion, they dont come much harder than this one. One thing that was noticeable in Saturdays game against Tayport was the vociferous support from the visiting support, that is just what we need right now so those of us travelling on Saturday lets get behind the boys and give them the support they deserve, we are in this together, shoulder to shoulder, whether you are the Chairman, Committee Member, Manager, Coach, Player or Supporter, we are United remeber it.
Visitors Earn Bragging Rights
St Andrews United went down to the only goal of a physical game yeaterday at Recreation Park, veteran Tayport frontman Ronnie Kenneth netted the winner after 18 minutes. Match Report to follow
Its Tayport Next
After todays results once again seemed to go in Uniteds favour, defeats for Blairgowrie and Carnoustie cemented there poitions as relegation possibles whilst Ballingry threw 2 points away as they conceded a last minute penalty to Kinnoull. Next week its the one that North East Fife has been waiting for St Andrews v Tayport at The Rec, so if ever there was a day to forget everything else then its next Saturday, get down to Recreation Park and shout on Saints to hopefully another 3 points and the bragging rights for the time being.
No Game Today
Unfortunately despite concerted efforts behind the scenes we have been unable to arrange a fixture for this afternoon, we did have provisional opponents but they were unable to commit to a fixture. So its on to next week and the Derby game against our neighbours Tayport. A round up of those games to take place this afternoon will be on line tommorow along with a report from our featured game which is now the clash between Carnoustie and Forfar WE.
Arniston Game OFF
With 3 inches of frozen snow on the park in the Lothians, Saturdays game at Arniston has been postponed, however, we are trying to get something arranged to play a game at home instead so watch the website for details as soon as we know.
Fortcoming Games
Well the weather had shown some sign of improvement which meant we were given advance notice that next week its the one a lot of people have been waiting for, Tayport at Recreation Park on the 10th April then on the 17th we travel to Kinnoull, however the weather has bitten back this week.
Dont Panic
OK so how many realised what date it was when i posted the story below, i know of at least one supporter who fell hook line and sinker for it, Sorry Bob. The story actually made it to the west as Kilbirnie Ladeside "borrowed" it.
UNITED TO BE RENAMED
St Andrews United are pleased to announce a major sponsorship deal with a big player in the male grooming field and from next season will be known as St Andrews Rapiers as well as Recreation Park becoming The Rapier Arena. The deal was completed late last night and a spokesperson for the company Miss V Sharp said in an exclusive interview with the club website that she hoped that the agreement would help carry the club on to the cutting edge of Junior football and maybe further. A committee member who wanted to remain nameless said that whilst it was sad to see the name change he understood that a change was needed and the investment most welcome. The club press officer the said that it was a pre-emptive move prior to the expected announcement that the Junior game will move to the summer and adopt a more razamatazz attitude similar to that adopted in cricket. Further name changes in the pipeline are believed to include Ballingry Bobcats, Armadale Armadillos, Tayport Tornadoes and the Arniston Aardvarks. Nobody from the SJFA was available to confirm or deny the change.
United Granted The Points
Another great performance by United saw them take all three points from this afternoons clash with Carnoustie at Recreation Park. In front of a good crowd, Ross Grant scored his first goal for United when he scored from close range after Jamieson in the visitors goal palmed the ball in to his path. The result sees United climb two places and out of the relegation zone to be replaced by Penicuik and Blairgowrie. For the details of the other Premier League results see the Junior Action page.
Get Behind The Saints
The weather forecast is good for tommorow so lets get a good crowd at Recreation Park to cheer on Jims Boys against our visitors from Carnoustie, there are important fixtures all over the leagues tommorow so that extra boost from the support may be the boost they need, so come on put that remote control down, stuff the shopping and get down to The REC.

Sutherland Seals 3 Points for Saints
A header from Gary Sutherland on 73 minutes secured the points for St Andrews United in the vital Premier League clash at Fauldhouse, another excellent team performance saw United create chance after chance and on another day the game would have been over and done with by half time, but a dogged home side made life difficult. With almost his first touch after replacing Allan Ramsey, Farky put a pin point cross straight on to Gary's head and he buried his header beyond the keeper. With good performances throughout the team it was difficult to pick a man of the match, with special mention to Wallace Brown, Ricky Patrick, Allan Ramsey and Gary, this weeks www.standrews-utd.co.uk man of the match is Paul Davidson
Guess What, Its ON
Tommorows game at Fauldhouse is reported as definately not in doubt so their will be an update as soon as possible after the game, but for updates during the game go to

St Andrews Utd v Carnoustie Panmure
Following the postponement of tommorows game at Arniston, we have been allocated one of our last four home games instead. Tommorow see's Carnoustie Panmure visit Recreation Park with a 2.30 kick off. As expected tommorows game at Arniston has been postponed due to the bad weather in the Lothians.

Match Off Again !
Todays game between Kinnoull and St Andrews United has been postponed due to the Tulloch Park pitch being frostbound.
Jim Looks Forward To Kinnoull
The visit to league leaders Kinnoull may sound a daunting one to some but for us we just hope we can get back to normality in terms of continuous football. I am confident that despite a couple of poor performances in the chaotic weeks just gone we are capable on our day of testing any team in this league. Our hosts are a footballing side and have character as was witnessed when we had a postponement at Forfar and some of us saw them coming back strongly from behind at Tayport when most thought they were buried.
For our part it must have been crystal clear just how much the lack of matches has affected us had you watched any part of our friendly on Saturday. Despite a promising start we were soundly beaten by Kirkcaldy, the Y M however have had a couple of games recently, friendlies mainly, and this proved to be part of the reason we failed to overcome them, not to hide in any way of course from our performance which was poor, more than a few players failed to react to the game having a competitive edge and the performance and result duly reflected this.
This week we must do better, the addition of on loan Dundee Midfielder Ross Grant should prove to be a valuable addition and he will be considered for a place in the starting line up.
Grant Checks In At The Rec
St Andrews United yesterday completed the loan signing of Dundee midfielder Ross Grant, Ross is 19 and lives in St Andrews and will be with us for the rest of the season. Some of you will remember Scott Grant who was with us a couple of years ago, well Ross is his brother. Good Luck Ross and all the best at the Rec.

Saints Up For Fauldhouse
Ricky and the boys are ready to take revenge over Fauldhouse this weekend, the West Lothian side were the visitors to Recreation Park in the first league game of the season and went home with the points after coming back to win 4-2 after Paul Farquharson had scored twice to give United the lead. Its been an up and down season since then and after an excellent week of training the team are looking forward to taking three points and kick starting the season before its too late. The weather forecast is for rain over the next couple of days although yesterday saw the Fauldhouse pitch still under 3 inches of snow, so keep an eye on the website for up to the minute news on whether the game is on or off.
Its Fauldhouse Again

50th Anniversary Of The Birth Of A Legend
The 27th of January is quite an important day in world history, the USA detonated the first atomic bomb in Nevada, The Red Army liberated Auschwitz and in 1926 John Logie Baird gave the first public demonstration of the television. However, 1960 saw the birth of a legend maybe only in the Tayside/Fife area but a legend none the less, that person was none other than or own Gus Malone ( i bet he had more hair then than he does now)
Happy 50th Birthday Gus from us all at St Andrews United.
The Bus
The Bus leaves Recreation Park at 10.30am on Saturday morning, if you want a seat then the list is up in the social club.
Get Behind The Saints
Now the dust has slightly settled after Saturdays disappointing result against Montrose we can reflect on where we are. Correct we are in a difficult position but do we really think that Jim and the lads want it that way ? No of course they don't. Yes supporters are entitled to their opinion but we all want one thing success but then success is relative, so lets get behind Jim and the boys and give them the support they deserve. This week we travel to Fauldhouse so those trecking to West Lothian lets go with a positive attitude instead of a negative one you never know you might enjoy it.
Next Week's Fixture

Our friends at the Byre Theatre have another football related performance coming up, as well as the Evening with Craig Levein, Singin' I'm No a Billy He's a Tim is a hilarious and often poignant snapshot of the pervasive sectarian divide which still exists in the west of Scotland. The production is for one night on 13th February. More details are available at www.byretheatre.com

Match Postponed
Unfortunately Saturdays game against Montrose Roselea has been postponed due to Recreation Park being unfit. The near side of the pitch is ok if a bit soft however there is standing water around the centre circle which freezes over at night and the far side is solid even after the snow has melted. The thaw has helped, however, not enough and the decision has been taken to postpone the game.
Craig Levein at The Byre
Scotland Boss Craig Levein is coming to St Andrews and United supporters can question him on his new appointment. Craig will be in conversation with Graham Spiers at The Byre Theatre on Feb 2nd at 7.30pm. The event is being organised by St Andrews based Association for International Cancer Research. There will be an audience question session at the end.
Tickets are available from The Byre priced at £10
Weather Update
Whilst the weather is a bit warmer the Recreation Park pitch is struggling, the trees are stopping the wind getting to the surface to help the thaw subsequently there is still snow and ice on the pitch. Whilst remaining optomistic its not looking good for Saturday but we will keep the website updated.
Next Fixture
St Andrews United will face Montrose Roselea at Recreation Park this Saturday 16th January k.o 1.45pm

United Exit Fife & Lothians Cup
St Andrews United exited this years Fife and Lothians Cup at the hands of Superleague Bathgate Thistle at a very snowy Recreation Park this afternoon. Bathgate were given an early chance of the lead when Robbie Raeside pulled down leading scorer Jim Lister, but Lister's penalty was superbly saved by Paul Davidson. Lister however atoned for his miss by giving Thistle the lead when he ran on to a through ball to slip the ball under Davidson. Bathgate were awarded a second penalty when Alan Ramsey was adjudged to have fouled Alex Lurinsky, Lurinsky converted the resultant spot kick. United were Steven Fallons kick was saved by Andy Carlin. United did pull a goal back on 40 minutes when Kris Maxwell netted after meeting a through ball from Fallon. United pressed throughout the second half and almost got a last minute equaliser when Paul Farquharson hit a great opportunity straight at Carlin, Bathgate went straight up the other end and after Lister took the ball forward and waited for reinforcements, Graham McLaren made a lung busting run to m eet Listers cross to give the final scoreline a flattering look. Both sides deserve credit for an entertaining game as does the referee when a lot of officials would have taken an easier option of postponing or abandoning the game.
Game ON !!!
After an early inspection this afternoons game will go ahead aginst Bathgate k.o 1.30pm
St Andrews Utd v Bathgate Thistle
For obvious reasons tommorows F & L Cup clash at home to Bathgate Thistle is in doubt, as soon as a definate decision is made it will be posted on here. Should the game be on then kick off will be at 1.30pm
Game Off
Todays game at Fauldhouse United has been postponed due to a frozen pitch and fog
United on their Travels

In the end Forfar were grateful that they went away from the Rec on Saturday with a point after an enthralling game. Full Match Report is now available
Man of the Match
What a difference a week makes, after last weeks performance in the rain at Penicuik the boys put together a blistering performance yesterday. Outstanding performances from debut making Robbie Raeside, Stephen Fraser, Steven Fallon, Kris Brash and Ricky Patrick who has had a difficult week personally. Gary was superb with his goal and laying on two for Kris Maxwell and Sean Muhsin coming off the bench and doing just what was asked for, but this weeks man of the match is hat trick hero, Kris Maxwell, good to see you back to form wee man.
United hit the Goal Trail
St Andrews United beat Blairgowrie in a thrilling encounter at the Rec on Saturday with Kris Maxwell scoring a superb 9 minute hat trick.
United V Blairgowrie
This weekend (Saturday 28th Nov) United face a vital game against Blairgowrie at the Rec, k.o 1.45pm
Major Signing Coup for United
I can confirm that St Andrews United have signed the experienced defender Robbie Raeside from Arbroath FC, Robbie started his career in St Andrews before embarking on a career in the SFL of over 400 games. Robbie's arrival is a major coup for United as he was being chased by other league clubs however manager Jim Hardie managed to secure is services at the Rec. He will make his debut at the Rec this weekend against Blairgowrie.
Penicuik 3 United 1
United once again conceded three goals on Saturday in their away fixture at Penicuik, David Evans scoring Uniteds consolation
Match ON
Following this mornings pitch inspection, the match referee has declared the park playable so this afternoons game is ON
This weeks fixture
This Saturday sees United with a tricky trip to face Penicuik Athletic k.o 2pm. However, with heavy rain forecast keep an eye on the website for latest news of this fixture.
Man of the Match
The www.standrews-utd.co.uk man of the match is an easy decision as I am sure those at the game will concur however those not at Carnoustie may find it strange. If it wasn't for this young mans performance the result could have been a lot worse, this weeks award goes to debut making, Liam Amos
Defeat at Carnoustie
In one of the few games to survive the stormy conditions in the region on Saturday, United travelled north to face Carnoustie and came away on the wrong end of a 3-0 defeat. Liam Amos made his debut for United between the posts, Ross Dorward replaced Kris Brash and Davie Evans came in for Kris Maxwell.
Fife & Lothians Cup
We have been drawn against Bathgate Thistle in the 2nd Round with the game to be played at the Rec on the 19th December.

Scottish Junior Cup Exit
Unfortunately Saturday saw us exit from the competition for this season thanks to a freak goal at Dundonald, United created enough chances to have the game signed, sealed and delivered, however, it was not tobe
Prankster At Large
It appears that there is a prankster in the ranks, I have been informed of two incidents involving a strikers socks and a coaches under garments (Have they cooled down yet Ronnie ?) .
I have it on good authority that the culprit will be dealt with in the appropriate manner and revenge will be sweet.
Man of the Match
In a game which never really hit the heights of excitement but certainly didnt lack in commitment there were good performances all round the team but this weeks man of the match award goes to Sean Muhsin
Replay in Junior Cup
Saturdays Emirates sponsored Scottish Junior Cup tie with Dundonald finished goalless so we have a tricky trip to Cardenden for the replay next Saturday k.o 2pm

Last weekends game against Forfar was postponed just an hour before kick off due the the surface being dangerous according to the referee.
On The Road Again !!!
This week Saints are on the road once again this week travelling to Forfar to face Forfar WE in a Premier League clash.
Man of the Match
The www.standrews-utd.co.uk Man of the Match award this week has taken a lot of contemplation after what was an excellent all round performance including a late attempt by Ross Dorward to make the GB gymnastics team for the World Championships (you had to be there). With excellent individual performances from Wallace Brown, Steven Fallon and David Evans, eventually i have awarded this weeks honour to Kris Brash, not only has he responded excellently in the last couple of games but he was also playing on the left side of midfield and had an excellent game, well done Brasher.
Share of the points with Armadale
Last Saturday United took a share of the points from the visit to Armadale, after falling 3-0 behind a tremendous fight back saw us draw 3-3 and really should have beaten our hosts, a full report is available in the reports section.

St Andrews have been drawn at home to Colin Downie's Dundonald Bluebell on 31st October 2009
Saints on the road
This weekend sees United travel to Armadale Thistle for a Premier League encounter k.o 2.30pm
Defeat To Ballingry
Last Saturday St Andrews went down 1-0 to Fife rivals Ballingry, in a much better performance from the boys they had to contend with having skipper Ricky Patrick sent off on the half hour but battled on, eventually succumbing to a killer blow on 81 minutes. This weeks Man of the Match, Mark McGuigan although mention must go to an outstanding performance from Steven Fallon
Vacancy with St Andrews United
Following the decision of Ian "Titch" McInroy to leave the club due to the pending departure of his son Scott we are now seeking a replacement "Trainer", Suitable applicants will have either a physio, medical or first aid back ground or be training towards any of the above.
The job will be to travel with the team to home and away matches, to assist in preparation of the players for those matches and to give on the spot treatment to injuries incurred during matches.
There may also be a requirement to attend occassional training sessions in the evenings, this can be discussed and is fairly flexible.
Remuneration for the job will be based on experience, qualifications and committment to time.

Listed Players
Today it has been announced that the folliowing players have been placed on the transfer list by Manager Jim Hardie. Those players are: Scott McInroy : Ross Dorward : Chris Brash : Paul Browne : Alan Brown : James Herkes : Paul Farquharson : These are in addition to current listed players : Rab Crawford : John Suttie :
The manager issued the following brief statement adding further information would be available in Saturdays Match Programme.
" It is disapointing to have to take such measures, this decision was based on mediocrity over 8 of the 9 games played and not a knee jerk reaction, however to stand by and do nothing was not an option as this would be an indication that current form was acceptable, my staff and I will not stand idly by and watch a team go backwards, there are a variety of reasons behind the individual decisions and I have shared those with the players concerned and will not publicly denounce any player as all of them at some stage or another have given everything they had for the club and I will respect that, whether or not they respect my decision and how they react to it will be a matter for the individuals concerned"
This Weeks Fixture
This week see's United tackle Arniston Rangers at home.
United Crash out to Jeanfield
After dallying with greatness last season, United crashed out of the East of Scotland Cup on Saturday to Central League, Jeanfield Swifts. A lacklustre performance saw United have to come back twice, finally losing out 3-2 in a penalty shootout.

Man of the Match
I now understand how managers say things straight after matches and then have to retract them later after they have thought about what they have said. I was convinced i knew who the MOM was after the Kinnoull performance but now I have considered and congitated and listened to other people and this weeks winner is the man who kept us in the game in the second half with a string of excellent saves, Paul Davidson. Mentioned in dispatches this week alongside the big man are Gary Sutherland, Alan Ramsey and again after his dice with Scotrail to get to Montrose, Wallace Brown.
St Andrews Utd v Kinnoull
Our visitors from Perth proved to be a tough nut to crack, not helped by a Saints side that lacked a cutting edge until Gary found the back of the net from a excellent ball through by Wallace Brown and then Davie Evans, on for Kris Maxwell, was felled in the box, Sean Muhsin converted the resulting penalty. Kinnoull full back Scott Nichol was sent off for the offence which was made worse by him kicking the ball at the fallen Evans from about 18 inches.
As at Montrose last week, Saints are still not the cohesive machine that did so well last season, however, on Saturday after the introduction of Kris Brash there were signs that the slickness was still there and the victory sees Saints climb to 4th in the league so all is not bad, Saturday sees United take a break from league action with a trip to Jeanfield in the East of Scotland Cup.
Club AGM
The Annual General Meeting of St Andrews United Junior Football Club will be held in the Dressing Rooms, Recreation Park, St Andrews at 7pm on Friday 18th September 2009.
Man of the Match
Man of the Match in the game at Montrose was midfield dynamo Alan Ramsey closely followed this week by Gary, Mark McGuigan, Ricky Patrick, Paul Farquharson and Wallace Brown.
Montrose Roselea v St Andrews Utd
This week United travelled to the north east to take on Montrose Roselea and came away with the points in a hard earned 2-1 victory. Scorer of the two St Andrews goals was Gary Sutherland either side of half time after Roselea had taken they lead with their second penalty of the game. A Full report is available on the Match Reports page.
Man of the Match
The www.standrews-utd.co.uk man of the match against Blairgowrie was a close thing with Alan Ramsey and Gary pushing the winner Mark McGuigan close.
Blairgowrie v St Andrews Utd
On Saturday United travelled to Blairgowrie for a Premier Division clash, and came away with a point after sharing 4 goals with their hosts. United Scorers were Kris Maxwell and Gary Sutherland with the last touch of the match, a more detailed report will follow later in the week.
So thats two games down and the first point is on the board. It is already obvious that this season will be no walk over and I am sure we are in for some tough and physical battles along the way. The boys will need to call on the spirit and committment that they showed last season, particularly in the games against higher opposition such as the away game at Bathgate, on a regular basis. If they can do that then we will be in for a decent season I am sure.
We know they can do it so lets get behind Jim and the boys and give them our support.

St Andrews Utd 6 Hendies 2
(Aaron Lofting Memorial Trophy)
Last Sunday, Saints hosted a Hendies Select in the fourth annual Aaron Lofting Memorial match. Eventually emerging 6-2 winners in an entertaining game, belied the fact that the Select side, several of whom were team mates of Aaron’s during his time at the Rec, had actually taken a two-one lead after 51 minutes when a catastrophic mix-up in the Saints defence allowed Boylan to nip in and tuck the ball into an empty net. Previously, Saints had taken the lead in 8 minutes when A. Brown bulleted a header home from a curling McGuigan cross. This was cancelled out in 39 minutes when former United favourite Juskowiak despatched a trademark 25 yard free kick beyond a static Davidson. Naturally, none to pleased at going behind, manager Hardie made several changes and his much strengthened eleven didn’t take long to even the score at 2-2 in 65 minutes and then drive on to overrun a visibly tiring Select side, who themselves had made several substitutions. A hat-trick from an in-form Sutherland (65, 76, 88), Muhsin (67) and a McInroy header in 82 minutes ensured that the beautiful glass trophy donated by the Lofting family remained on show in the home side’s Social club for another year.
St Andrews Utd 1 Arthurlie 0 (Friendly)
Viewed by many as Saints' big test before the start of the new season, Saints emerged winners by 1-0 against West Super League giants, Arthurlie thanks to a splendid Gary Sutherland goal after 76 mins when he turned his marker and shot low past the keeper from 20 yards. Credit too to Mark McGuigan who expertly won the ball in midfield and switched play, before supplying Gary with an accurate pass.
After a fairly non descript first half in which the big, robust Arthurlie side had more chances, Saints made several changes at half time and now playing down the slope with the breeze, upped the tempo of their game to which Arthurlie responded. Although not a dirty game there were several meaty challenges and a couple of "incidents" as both teams strove for supremacy. An Arthurlie close range shot hit the post then Ramsay nipped the ball away as the trigger was about to be pulled. Liam Amos, now in goal for Saints, brought off a fine save before Sutherland's goal.
Apart from another first class Amos save - diving low to his right - Saints were now in command and safely brought the game to a satisfactory conclusion.
Downfield 1 St Andrews Utd 1 (Friendly)
It ended all square in this friendly match at Downfield tonight. Saints went ahead with striker Gary Sutherland scoring after 25 first half minutes. Numerous chances were then made and squandered by both teams until Downfield equalised on 62 mins. Both teams were happy at full time with a draw. Saints real test is this Saturday against Arthurlie at Recreation Park.
St Andrews Utd 1 Dundee Violet 0 (Friendly)
With two clean sheets and another victory, Saints beat Violet on Saturday with a solitary Gary Sutherland first half header. A beautiful curling free kick by Paul Farquharson after 14 mins floated into the penalty area only for Sutherland to head home from 10 yards. Paul Davdison produced a marvellous save 4 mins later from a 25 yard rocket to prevent a quick equaliser. Another move ended with a Davie Evans effort hitting the post following a Sutherland flick on. Violet had a great chance to equalise on 58 mins with another long ranger but Davidson was again the hero. Young Conor Finlay was unlucky to see his goal chalked off after 64 mins and as time ran out Saints held on to their slender lead to claim the victory.
Team: Davidson(Amos 65), W.Brown, Dorward(Brash 74), Hegarty(P.Browne 51), McInroy, Ramsay, Muhsin, McGuigan, Maxwell(Evans 16), Sutherland, Farquharson(Finlay 45)
Saints now face an away trip to Downfield on Wednesday night (29th) with a 7.00pm kick off.
St Andrews Utd 2 Kirriemuir Thistle 0 (Friendly)
In the first of Saints pre-season games, second half goals from Gary Sutherland and Paul Farquharson gave the home side a comfortable win.

Hot Signing News !!!!

www.standrews-utd.co.uk player of the season
We didnt start the M.O.M award until part way through the season so there is no official player of the season this term, however, next season the competition will run and the player with the most awards will be presented with an award.
However, this season I feel the person with the most awards deserves a mention, after joining part way through the season and instantly lighting up the Saints performances with his pace and committment. No trophy this year but still the Website Player of the Year goes to Kris Maxwell.

East of Scotland Cup Semi Final
St Andrews 1 Lochee Utd 2
This season drew to a close at a warm but breezy Rec this afternoon with defeat for the Saints against last seasons superleague champions from across the water Lochee. With Ross Dorward cup-tied Graham Makein returned at left back appropriately on the day of his testimonial dinner, Chippy Fraser returned to partner Paul Brown, James Herkes returned in midfield replacing Alan Ramsey. United started well and competed well against their higher league opponents although we wouldn't expect less and went in level at the break. Saints took the lead through a Herkes header midway through the second half, however the lead didnt last long as the ball was given away in midfield Lochee equalised before hitting the winner on 84 minutes. All in all a dissapointing end to the season, however, if we had been offered the championship and two major semi finals at the start of the season we would have taken it without doubt, all that is left to say is well done boys and lets see what next season brings

The man of the match award goes to the management team Jim, Bill, Ronnie, Tam, Gus, Alan and last but not least Ian McInroy.

Bankfoot Athletic 1 St Andrews Utd 2
Once again United were on their travels this time to Perthshire and Bankfoot, with players carrying knocks and a EOS Cup Semi Final against Lochee at the Rec on Saturday, changes were made with starts for McInroy, Sutherland, Crawford and Duncan Campbell. United took a while to settle but took the lead on 22 minutes through Big Duncan and on 31 increased there lead through Gary Sutherland. The second half saw United sit back conserving energy for the weekend and Bankfoot pulled a barely deserved goal back just before the finish, more importantly United held on to go all through the league unbeaten, a fantastic feat in whichever league a team plays.

Linlithgow Rose 5 St Andrews Utd 3
Again i was absent on Saturday due to a wedding in the highlands, however, my spy in the camp tells me that United didn't just roll over against their Superleague opponents indeed at one stage during the second half pulled the scores level at 3-3, however, this time it wasn't meant to be. United scorers were Davie Evans, Paul Farquharson and Kris Maxwell. Full Report to come

www.standrews-utd.co.uk man of the match
The man of the match award can really only go to one man after last night although there were good performances by those coming in for rare starts, Scott McInroy was solid at the back and Duncan Campbell linked play well, however the winners two goals tipped the balance, last nights man of the match award goes to Davie Evans.
----------------
St Andrews United 2 Kirkcaldy YM 1
On the night when United were presented with the league trophy our nearest challengers at the end YM were the visitors to the Rec. The trophy was presented prior to the game in order to meet with media requirements, however a lack of medals means that the ceremony will be replicated at a later date in order for these to be presented to the players, this is not the place for comment regarding this but be rest assured that the club are not impressed by the situation.
On to the game and manager Hardie took the opportunity to make changes prior to the two big cup games coming up, Scott McInroy replaced Stephen Fraser, John Suttie came in for James Herkes, Davie Evans had a roving role behind a front two of Sutherland and Campbell. It took a while for United to get going but were on top when hit by the hammer blow of a YM goal which galvanised our vistors and the teams went in at half time with that goal the difference. United came out revitalised and it wasnt long before leading scorer Evans headed United level, Saints were then once again the better side and evntually the pressure told with Evans scoring his second to maintain Uniteds unbeaten league record this season. Two more league games to go with United favourites to go unbeaten however the importance of the two cup semi finals will not be ignored.

Yesterdays man of the match was really between 4 people, Gary had a good game in an unfamilliar wide role and James Herkes had an influential game in midfield until tiredness took its toll, Ricky again played a captains role on the left up against the vastly experienced Nisbet. However, during the second half todays winner kept us in the competition with a string of fine saves and once again in the shootout made a couple of brilliant saves, man of the match is Paul Davidson

East Of Scotland Cup Q/F
Arniston Rangers 2 St Andrews 2
United won 5-4 on penalties
United yesterday made the trip south of Edinburgh to Gorebridge and the home of Arniston Rangers in the Quarter Final of the EOS Cup. For the middle of May the weather was typically baltic with a howling wind and driving rain coming off the Pentland Hills but in an entertaining first half both sides made the best of the conditions. Jim had to make a couple of changes with Ross Dorward cup tied and Paul Farquharson suffering with his ankle so John Suttie came in at left back and Gary Sutherland took over on the right side with Ricky swapping to the left. United started well against a determined Rangers who had ex Glasgow Ranger Scott Nisbet at right back. United took the lead through a Davie Evans header from a vicious Ricky cross and when Kris Maxwell made it two United were cruising, however, after half time tiredness took its toll and they let Arniston back in to the game and with two quick goals were level, however, United held firm just and once again took a cup tie to a penalty shoot out.
Arniston went first but a brilliant one handed save by Paul from Nisbet put United in the box seat, indeed they converted there first four penalties from Ricky, Gary, Scott McInroy and Paul himself leaving Mark McGuigan with a chance to win it however, after hearing Celtic had been beaten by Rangers his day got worse when he missed, however as the shoot out went to sudden death Arniston missed again leaving John Suttie to win it for United and set up a mouth watering semi final against Lochee United at the Rec on a date to be arranged.

Yesterdays man of the match goes to a player who showed what was needed when backs were to the wall at 2-1 down. Whilst not his best 90 minutes he made to headers and a tackle in the second half that won the ball and forced United forward and left the Whitburn players wondering what had hit them and that player is Paul Browne.

Fife & Lothians Cup Quarter Final
Whitburn Jnrs 2 St Andrews United 2
United won 3-2 on penalties
Well 4 days is a long time in football and United managed to put last wednesday nights draw at Crossgates behind them to progress to the semi finals of the F & L Cup.
Jim Hardie made one change with John Suttie replacing a rested James Herkes in midfield.
United weren't phased by there hosts and took the game to Whitburn in the first half and it was no real surprise when United took the lead on 38 minutes, when Davie Evans was on hand to tap in after a Kris Maxwell shot was parried by the Whitburn keeper in to his path.
The Whitburn half time team talk could be heard in Glasgow and they came out like an injured lion and got the break when referee Potter adjudged that Paul Brown had pulled down one of the Whitburn forwards, it was duly converted to draw level. Sutherland replaced and injured Davie Evans on 54 minutes as Whitburn took the ascendency and on 66 our hosts took the lead. This United side refuses to die and to prove this Kris Maxwell drew Saints level on 85 minutes and once again we faced a penalty shootout. Ricky, Farky and Gary converted for United to see us through to a semi away to Linlithgow.

After much deliberation and i mean much the man of the match for last night goes to Ross Dorward, Ross has settled in really well to the United side and linked up well with the other back three and midfield, however, special mention must go to Ricky and Alan who both had good games in midfield.
---------------
Crossgates Primrose 1 United 1
Well where do i start !!! I am sure The Samaritans did a roaring trade last night listening to some of our own supporters after the game at Humbug Park, but thats 15 wins and 5 draws and still unbeaten in the league, however, that doesn't appear to matter when a hanging is more preferable. Last night was a bad night, helped along by a bumpy pot holed pitch, extremely poor refereeing and a poor United performance but there was still no need for what was said. My only question to those "experts" would be " Would you drop two players that scored 6 goals between them on Saturday ? "
Manager Jim Hardie kept the same starting eleven as saturday however it was obvious that this was never going to be another 7-0, although United took the lead with a Farky free kick almost on the half hour, however, Primrose came out for the second half with renewed vigour and leading scorer Mark Pagliarulo beat Paul Davidson and Ross Dorward before rolling home just after the break, United continued to press and for better decision making with the final ball could and maybe should have been away in the distance but it wasnt meant to be. As tempers got frayed with the performing seal in black, United had 4 hand ball appeals turned down, two of which the Primrose bench conceded that there player looked like he was going to carry the ball out of the area, the game petered out to a draw, so its now to Lochore next Wednesday for the league title, but with a brief call at Whitburn in the cup on Saturday.

Meerkat leader Davie Evans was back with a bang on Saturday with two goals at Kirkcaldy, during his suspension he managed to get away for a couple of days and has allowed me to post some holiday snaps below :

Crossgates Directions
Directions by road: From Dunfermline (A92): At roundabout at outskirts of village, take the 2nd exit (B925) and follow road straight into Crossgates. After half a mile, turn right at traffic lights onto Inverkeithing Road and then 2nd right into Windmill Knowe. Humbug Park is over the wall on the right.
--------------------
Next Stop Crossgates
The St Andrews United Title Express has now moved on from its call in Kirkcaldy and is now heading for Crossgates on Wednesday evening. Three points there and we will be on 52 points with a GD of +48, both Kirkcaldy YM and Rosyth can only get to 52 points should they win every game, YM have a GD of +10 and Rosyths is +26, so its pretty safe to say that three points on Wednesday and its all over, because that swing in goals just isn't going to happen.
So lets all get down to Crossgates on Wednesday for 7pm and cheer on Ricky and the boys to a deserved title.
Directions to Crossgates are shown above.

If I could I would give it to the whole squad for one of the best displays of football I have seen. Paul Davidson was back to his best after Wednesday nights antics, the back four looked solid as a rock, James Herkes was outstanding with Ricky leading by example, Alan Ramsey continues to roll back the years and Farky was back to his best on the wing. Then we come to the Meerkat, Davie was brilliant this afternoon and sent shivers up and down the spines of the YM defenders, but for the third time the award goes to 4 goal Kris Maxwell who gave a sublime display of forward play that left YM bamboozled and shellshocked, congratulations Kris.
------------------
Kirkcaldy YM 0 St Andrews United 7
What can I say, we didnt expect that. A display of total football that to be honest would have graced any stage. Ross Dorward continued at left back and with the return of James Herkes to midfield meant that Mark McGuigan could move to right back. Paul Farquharson also returned on the left along with Davie Evans and Kris Maxwell in the front line.
After taking 10 minutes to settle United hit the goal trail in 15 minutes through Davie Evans then 2 minutes later Kris Maxwell doubled the lead, Evans made it 3 on 33 before Maxwell made it 4 on half time. United came out in the same vane and young Kris made it 5 and completed his hat trick on 48 then hit his fourth on 52, time for changes with Campbell and Sutherland replacing Dorward and Evans, Suttie had already replaced an injured Farquharson and on 63 minutesand indeed Suttie leapt like a Wild Salmon to head home for Uniteds seventh on 63, that was it for the goals although overall United could quite easily have hit double figures.
We now move on to Crossgates with one hand on the title and with the possibility that it could all be over, barring a faint mathematical possibility that the Universities Maths Department would fail to justify on Wednesday evening, the turn out from St Andrews was outstanding lets see you all at Crossgates and it may be party time.

Tonight saw the Saints travel to Hill of Beath for their Maloco & Ass Cup Tie with suspensions and injuries finally coming back to haunt them. Manager Hardie was again forced in to changes. Ross Dorward finally made his debut at left back with Scott McInroy continuing at right back this meant that John Suttie could move in to midield to replace James Herkes and with important league games on the horizon Duncan Campbell partnered Gary Sutherland in the front line. On the bench we welcomed back Robert Crawford. United played the best football of the first half and deservedly took the lead when Dorward lofted a high ball in to the box and Duncan Campbell beat the keeper to it and headed it over the keeper for the lead. H o B then equalised through a penalty after Scott Mc Inroy was adjudged to have deliberately handled a cross. A ten minute period in the second half took the game beyond United with uncharecteristic errors leading to 3 goals from the Superleague outfit and with the league cup final on Sunday they shut up shop restricting United to plenty of possesion but little in the way of chances. 4-1 certainly flatters Hill of Beath however they were clinical when the chances were in front of them.

www.standrews-utd.co.uk man of the match
Unfortunately i missed my first game for a while due to business commitments but i did have a spy at the game and i am reliably informed that Chippy Fraser and Paul Browne were outstanding at the back with "Auld Heid" Alan Ramsey again superb in midfield. However todays man of the match goes to the skipper for a real captains performance, well done Ricky.

Redwood Leisure Cup
Tayport 1 St Andrews 1
Tayport 4-3 on pens
Yet another sterling performance against higher league opposition by an understrength United. In an entertaining first half both sides had near chances particularly when a Sutherland shot from the edge of the box flew past the far post and minutes later Gary made another opening for Patrick to fire just past the near post. Tayport's speedy Elvin on the right was proving to be a handful and in 32 mins he broke free and his low cross found its way to Scott who shot home from 12 yards. HT 1-0. From the resumption, Saints looked much more composed and looked the more likelier to score. Tayport, however, were still dangerous on the break and Davidson did well to push a snap shot onto the bar. With time running down and with nothing to lose, manager Hardie forfeited defender Suttie for 'super-sub' Campbell. Duncan's first touch in 82 mins was to head on a Davidson clearance into the path of Patrick who forced the ball home from ten yards for a deserved equaliser. And so to a penalty shoot-out in which Davidson did his utmost to win it for his team. Saving two attempts and showing everyone how to score! Pity MoM wasn't just based on this! Out of six penalties each, Tayport got through 4-3.

Lomond United v Dukla Pumpherston
Sunday 17th May sees a star studded charity game at The Rec, with Lomond United taking on Chic Young's Dukla Pumpherston in aid of Rymont Housing. The game will see such luminaries as Chic himself, Tommy Sheridan, Gerry Collins, Gerry Britten turning out for Pumpherston, with legends such as Andy Goram, Steve Kirk, John McGlynn and our very own Jim Hardie pulling on the shirt of United. At this point I wish to remind our own players that this game gives the opportunity to repay Mr Hardie for all those afternoons of bellowing from the touchline, it is rumoured that one or two other members of the coaching staff may don the Lomond shirt.

St Andrews 1 Newburgh 0
On a cold night at the Rec, United maintained their progress towards a possible Central League Championship although it was far from easy against a physical and well organised Newburgh side. Manager Hardie made changes with Fraser in for McInroy, Herkes replaced Suttie in midfield who had moved to left back to replace Brash. Kris Maxwell returned to the striking line replacing the suspended Evans. A poor first half is probably best forgotten, and United came out for the second half with a renewed vigour and the busy Maxwell got his reward on the hour firing home after a cross from the left . United held on without any major alarm to secure another 3 points.

St Andrews Utd 2 Kirriemuir 1
The undoubted United commitment came to the fore once again as they got the winner in injury time once again. This time a superb cross from John Suttie was placed on to the head of James Herkes who buried his header past the Kirrie keeper to give United a juicy encounter away to local rivals Tayport next Saturday at the Canniepart. United were first off the mark when the returning Gary Sutherland flicked Paul Browne's powerful header in at the near post, Thistle battled on and got there equaliser in the second half before the excitement of James Herkes winner.

In a game that could quite honestly have seen any one of the thirteen players on duty being awarded the man the match title especially an outstanding Kris Brash, the award goes to a player who turned the game when it could very easily have run away from us, at 4-2 this player made a brilliant double save which led to, if possible, an even greater belief from the boys that we could get something from the game in deed we went on pull the 2 goals back and in the shootout the big man was superb saving 3 from4 Bathgate kicks, this weeks Man of the Match is Paul Davidson.

St Andrews won 3-1 after penalties
Now we are back from another away treck this time to West Lothian and Creamery Park the home of Junior Cup holders Bathgate Thistle for an East of Scotland 3rd round tie. Lochgelly Albert 1 St Andrews Utd 2
Now i have thawed out from the baltic land of Lochgelly I can bring you todays report. The game stuck a striking similarity to last weeks victory at Jeanfield with plenty of commitment and effort but a struggle to find that final touch. James Herkes failed to recover from his ankle knock so Graham Makein came in at right back with Mark McGuigan pushed forward in to midfield, the other change saw Gary Sutherland return to the starting eleven to partner Kris Maxwell in place of Davie Evans. Ross Dorward United's new signing from Lochee Utd was on the bench.
As i have already said the majority of the game was a blood and guts afair that wasnt ignited until the 76th minute when Chippy Fraser headed home from close range after a Ricky Patrick cross. At this point Albert introduced former Saint Colin Jeffery and his pace troubled the United back line and in the 83rd minute they equalised through Neil McLeod after uncertainty in that back line, however United werent finished and in the 91st minute another Ricky Patrick cross was cleared only to Kris Maxwell 20 yards out who buried his shot in the top corner to secure all 3 points and extend the lead to 9 points at the top of the league.

www.standrews-utd.co.uk man of the match
In a match that the result owed so much to commitment and hard work this weeks award could go to anybody, however, one player showed that touch of class on his forays forward from his full back berth and that player is rght back Mark McGuigan.
Jeanfield 0 St Andrews 1
Never has committment and downright hard work been rewarded in a more appropriate manner than that at Jeanfield this afternoon. United started off this important game with just one change from the side that came away from Thornton with the points last week with Kris Brash returning at left back in place of the unfit John Suttie which meant leading scorer Gary Sutherland remained on the bench as Kris Maxwell continued to partner Davie Evans up front. United were also joined by new signing Ross Dorward from Superleague champions Lochee United, Ross is an ex St Andrews Colt and a vastly experienced defender and provides United with cover in a few positions as we get to the business end of the season. United huffed and puffed against a resilient Swifts and despite being well on top went in at half time at 0-0. The second half was much the same until what looked like a bad injury to James Herkes ankle when he went down unchallenged although after treatment in the dressing room initial concerns have been eased a little although it remains to be seen if James will be fit for next weeks trip to Lochgelly. Herkes was replaced by Graham Makein and Mark McGuigan pushed forward in to midfield, shortly after this United got the break when the referee awarded a penalty for handball and Makein converted from the spot, United held firm for the points and the hard earned win was made all the more important with the news that Rosyth had been beaten 2-1 by Thornton our nearest challengers now appear to be Kirkcaldy YM and we would never have said that at the start of the season, incidentally we still have to play them home and away this season.

v Thornton Hibs 14th March
After an excellent victory in blustery conditions this afternoon there are several candidates for the first website sponsored man of the match, Paul Brown was massive at the back ably assisted by Stephen Fraser, John Suttie and Mark McGuigan, in midfield Ricky Patrick and Herkey covered nearly every inch of grass supporting Alan Ramsey who showed just what was missed last week. Farky was also back to form although the wind didnt help the ball in to his path. Up front Kris Maxwell got his first start for United and gave the home defence a nightmare with his never say die attitude, however the man of the match award for this week goes to two goal David Evans who came back from last weeks disappointment in fine form scoring two well taken goals.

SAINTS SIT TOP OF THE PILE
Can i ask you to take a look at the league table, you will see St Andrews United are top, with everybody else below them. If they are there in 10 games time they will be champions, not joint champions or co champions but champions, in there own right, i say this because apparently after Saturdays game at Newburgh, United weren’t leaders they were joint leaders and only there on goal difference. A touch negative don’t you think
This takes me back to the programme for the game against Rosyth and manager Jim Hardies comments, where he questioned defeatist attitudes
For most of the game at Newburgh all i heard was criticism of this player and that player which was upsetting because in my humble opinion the team we have at St Andrews live and die as a team so to hear abuse gets to them all and they will all see the draw as a defeat but as i have said above, we are top and if we stay there we will be champions, it is at this point i am going to say something controversial, how many people actually want United to go up because recently the criticism i have heard at home and away has been nothing but damaging and if it continues will permananently damage the club.
So basically lets get behind the boys and give them our support and i am sorry if you don’t think that promotion is a good thing then i don’t believe you have a place as a supporter of St Andrews United
Newburgh 2 St Andrews 2
If the rest of the season is anything like this afternoon's trip to Newburgh i will be spending Sundays in the coronary care units of Fife and Tayside. Saints took the lead inside the first 30 seconds when Ricky Patrick was on hand to tap in a cross from the left despite appeals from our hosts that the ball was out of play, Saints then failed to kick on and huffed and puffed there way to half time without finding the killer last ball. The second half was much the same except this time Newburgh scored twice and went in to the lead. Davie Evans saw red for violent conduct before Duncan Campbell got the final touch in a penalty area free for all to earn United a point. Not one of our better afternoons but at the end of the day the league table doesn't lie and United now sit top on goal difference with a game in hand and there is still a 0 in the defeats column, next Saturday is another day and we travel to Thornton so better to put this one to bed and look forward to visiting our second nearest challengers for the Central League title.
New Arrival at The Rec !
Kris Maxwell has arrived at the Rec from Dundee FC, Kris is an under 19 squad member at Dens Park and Jocky Scott has allowed him to join United until the end of the season and what a start he made netting the winner at the back post after a superb Duncan Campbell flick on. Welcome to the Rec Kris and we hope you enjoy your stay but that haircut !!!!!!
Race Night
As most will know and if you dont you should do, the club held a race night in the social club last night and a brilliant night it turned out to be, right from the off money was being laid on the horses ensuring a decent payout, i did begin to wonder if we were paying the players too much when wallets started coming out and one player certainly seemed to have more money than sense, but then in John Sutties case thats not neccesarily that difficult. As the racing came to an end the final race involved an ownership auction and the real money came out manager Jimmy Hardie started it off by getting the management team to stump up £40 for the first horse, Ricky then managed to coerse, persuade and con the team in to forking out for some of the others however it was to no avail as Jims horse romped home.
We then had a small disco before the St Andrews United Communial Choir took over, starring Billy Hutton, Jim, James Herkes, James brother Jason and then the ultimate in big night entertainment, The Meerkat Massive.
What a night and thanks to all involved in the organisation of a brilliant night.
Saturday 7th March
Newburgh v St Andrews
ko 2.30
Result : St Andrews United 2 Rosyth 1
Saints came back from being a goal down at half time after Vaughan had put the visitors in front after 25 minutes, to take the spoils in a pulsating second half. Stevie Fallon scored his first United goal after 66 minutes from the penalty spot and then in an inspired substitution on 84 minutes manager Jim Hardie replaced top scorer Gary Sutherland with Duncan Campbell and the big man got a great flick on to the ball and it fell at the feet of new boy Kris Maxwell who made no mistake at the far post.
Result : Kelty Hearts 2 St Andrews 5
Yes you read correctly, our warriors in black and white beat the Super League top side by 5 goals to 2 at a blustery and wet Kelty. As expected Graham Makein was at right back in place of Stevie Fallon but Davie Evans had recovered enough to take his place alongside Gary Sutherland. Mark McGuigan returned to the bench. In a first half dominated by refereeing inconsistencies Saints took the lead in the 2nd minute through Paul Farquarson and the flying winger added a second before Kelty pulled one back to leave the score at 2-1 at half time. Early in the second half Kelty levelled, however, United hit top gear and scored three times without reply, 2 from Gary Sutherland and one from James Herkes to take the game beyond their hosts and to gain a result that will surely make people sit up and take note of an in form Saints.
Congratulations Graham
The committee of St Andrews United is pleased to announce that to celebrate the long service and illustrious career of Graham Makein is to be marked by a testimonial dinner at the Social Club on Saturday 30th May 2009.
